Storytelling
After an extensive career in journalism and communications, Lynette returned to school later in life to pursue filmmaking at the University of Regina. Her narrative shorts are deeply personal and based on redemption stories with universal appeal - from postpartum depression to navigating shared custody.
In 2023, Out Standing in His Field, about an elderly man with dementia who escapes the nursing home and winds up on his former wheat field, won top honours at film festivals from Toronto to Tokyo. The film was a runner up at the prestigious 2024 CBC Short Film Face Off.
Driver’s Licence is loosely based on a beloved family member, but the story has universal appeal. It details the complex family dynamics that occur when a beloved parent/grandparent faces the end stages of driving. It’s a story full of heartache, humour and hope, reminding us all that while we can’t escape aging, there is life after driving - if we have the courage to accept and embrace this inevitable life transition.
